USDA Grants IA Health System Over $700,000 For Epic EHR Implementation

"The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant will help fund an Iowa health system’s Epic EHR implementation in an effort to ease patient data sharing."

- Iowa-based Washington County Hospital and Clinics, (WCHC). Was recently Over three-quarters of one million dollars were granted by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), to fund Epic EHR implementation.

It is expected that the project will take one year. Implementation will begin in November this year and rollout will be complete in November 2023.

WCHC states that this grant was a significant win for the hospital because it will allow the Washington community to improve the care of residents in Southeast Iowa.

WCHC expressed its enthusiasm for Epic's enhanced data sharing capabilities for patients.

According to a KCII report, "It's the most used system of healthcare. I want to state that at least 70% of all hospitals use it." Greta Clemmons is the director of marketing at WCHC. This system is used the most in the United States. It makes it easy to access, use and transfer records.

Epic EHR Systems continues to be the market leader in EHR technology, with users stating that it consistently outperforms the competition year after year. According the latest KLAS market share report Epic Systems has gained more than 74 hospitals and 80,000 beds by 2021. The Epic Systems EHR system is used nationwide by over 250 healthcare organizations. More than 45 percent of the population has their records stored on the Epic Systems EHR.

Cody Regional Health (CRH), announced earlier this month that it will implement an Epic EHR transitioning away MEDITECH as its EHR vendor.

According to the press release, all CRH's clinics in the Big Horn Basin Region will be involved in the simultaneous go-live. This will allow data exchange between secure patient records through a single platform.

Doug McMillan (CEO of CRH Health System), stated in a statement that the team had been hard at work for two years to prepare this system. Although it is complex, Epic will bring greater health benefits to our patients and offer more support for our clinical teams.

"We are thrilled to begin the transition to Epic at CRH. McMillian said Epic will make it easy for patients to view and navigate their records. "This is another way CRH strives to make patients' experiences with us positive."
